Experience the artistry and mastery of acoustic guitar with Bend instrumentalist and teacher Matthew Gwinup in an intimate concert at the Tower Theatre, Saturday, June 10, at 8 pm. Over the past three years, while in various stages of lockdown, Matthew created three solo albums. With restrictions imposed by the pandemic, he was unable to share his work with audiences—until now. This Album Celebration brings together modern and traditional styles, from classical guitar works to the Beatles, in an original repertoire played on Matthew’s own collection of distinctive stringed instruments.
Matthew’s impressive display of talent and lifelong musicianship will be underscored by limited, up close and personal seating actually on the stage with Gwinup. “Think of it as a tiny house concert set in Central Oregon’s most informally elegant living room,” says Ray Solley, Executive Director of the Tower Theatre Foundation. Admission will be limited to 55 patrons. Each ticket to this unique event includes a complimentary drink, light appetizers, and a copy of Matt’s newest album, String Theory.
“I want to share stories about the pieces, the guitars, and my years of performing around the region in such a wide variety of places, including the Tower,” Gwinup explained. With the theatre auditorium as a dramatic backdrop, Matthew’s accessible style creates an intimate atmosphere, drawing listeners into his virtuoso compositions and deepening their own musical tastes.
All in all, this “Local at the Tower” presentation is an acoustic guitar concert and album celebration that promises a moving mix of music, inspiration and community.
