When filmmaker Cody Sheehy met Terry, a veteran, former Hell’s Angel, sailor, diver, and conservationist living aboard his boat in the remote Sea of Cortez, he knew there was a story. What he didn’t know was that Terry’s best friend had once been Willy, a giant wild manta ray who visited him daily for years. Willy would slap a massive wing against Terry’s boat until he came out to play, then carry him through the blue on his back.
But The Last Dive is about far more than an extraordinary friendship between a man and a manta ray. Beneath the breathtaking underwater story is a deeply human exploration of friendship, redemption, and finding peace after a complicated past. Willy knew nothing of the life Terry had lived before they met, and that unconditional connection would ultimately change the course of his life.
