The nonprofit Tower Theatre Foundation is sponsoring a monthly series of “Live to your Home” streams from Portland featuring folk-rock-jam band The Junebugs. Must RSVP to receive after-party link, but concert can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvPkOvhl70s
In direct response to the COVID-19 quarantines in Oregon, The Junebugs have been livestreaming as a socially distanced pod from a basement studio since March. Their personal banter, familiar tunes, and new original music, combine to make an engaging evening that begs for repeat appointment-viewing. Following each show Tower Theatre viewers are invited to a private, interactive and casual “after party” with the trio.
The Junebugs combine high-energy bluegrass with Pacific Northwest folksy goodness to create a genre-bending sound you can kick up your heels to. From Portland, the eclectic tastes of vocalist and guitarist Moses Barrett, drummer Kyle Owen and bassist Nathaniel Daniel range from turn-of-the-century Americana to modern Hip Hop, with a strong emphasis on vocal harmony. Their original tunes have a dreamy, sweet quality reminiscent of Neil Young and Tom Petty, peppered with fiery banjo lines. There is something for everyone here. “The American songbook is alive and well, and it didn’t end in the 1950’s,” Barrett says.
Viewers who contribute to the show’s virtual tip jar will automatically be entered into a raffle for a $100 gift certificate to the Tower Theatre plus a choice of Tower mugs and stickers.
