Independence Day Starts at the Tower July 3rd

In their debut performance at the Tower, the Cascade Horizon Band will be directed by Sue Steiger. Then, history comes alive when the Declaration that established the United States will be read on stage by: Deschutes County Commissioner Tammy Baney; Bend Mayor Kathi Eckman; Brig. General James Cunningham (ret.); KTVZ’s Bob Shaw; Bend Experimental Art Theatre students Julia Overfelt and Cole Ireland.

The first 150 people attending the event receive a complimentary copy of the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution. Each attendee can also enter to win an American flag certified as flown over our nation’s Capitol, plus “1776” DVDs and movie posters.

“1776” (1972; rated G) revolves around the days leading up to July 4, 1776 as Continental Congressmen John Adams (William Daniels) and Benjamin Franklin (Howard Da Silva) coerce Thomas Jefferson (Ken Howard) into writing the Declaration of Independence. The musical, based on the Tony-winning Broadway production, showcases the determination of our founding fathers, with much of the lyrics and dialog taken directly from their actual letters and memoirs.

This celebration of America's birthday is made possible by the Tower Theatre Foundation, Deschutes County, Jubilee Productions, and Shore Thing Productions.
