In this new opera, sung in English, a woman “of a certain age” embarks on a pilgrimage along Spain’s Camino de Santiago in search of answers to life’s questions. A full array of characters – witty to wise, confrontational to bawdy – debate love, life, religion and bedbugs in song and dance. A dramatic and inspired finale concludes this lyrical allegory. Based on a verse novel by Ellen Waterston, the masterful original score by Rebecca Oswald is conducted by Central Oregon Symphony maestro, Michael Gesme. With direction by Nancy Engebretson (“The Magic Flute”) and choreography by Michelle Mejaski. The award-winning OperaBend cast includes acclaimed soprano Emily Pulley, mezzo soprano Hannah Penn, soprano Jocelyn Claire Thomas, mezzo soprano Jeanne Wentworth, baritone Zachary Lenox, tenor Chad Johnson and tenor Jason Stein.
