Nearly seventy singers and instrumentalists will fill the stage of the
Tower Theatre on December 17 and 18 with the sounds of Handel’s
“Messiah.” The Central Oregon Mastersingers and Orchestra under the
direction of Clyde Thompson will present the work on December 17 at 7:30
pm, and again on December 18 at 2:00 PM.
Soloists in these performances will include singers familiar to Central Oregon audiences, including Trish Sewell, Katrina Hays, James Knox, and Steve Osterkamp. The 20-piece orchestra will replicate the baroque orchestra of Handel’s day, with pairs of oboes and trumpets, bassoon, harpsichord, and strings. The audience will be asked to become part of the chorus on three movements, honoring the long tradition of Messiah “sing-alongs” that have become part of the unique heritage of this iconic work.
