Chicago is a vaudeville-style musical satire about crime, corruption, greed, sex, and our less than perfect justice system in prohibition era Chicago. It conceptualizes the "celebrity criminal" and those that are known for their antics, not their talents. The catch phrase, “if you can't be famous be infamous,” sets the stage for this Tony award winning musical.

Chicago is based on a 1926 play of the same name by reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins about actual criminals and crimes in her reporting. The original Broadway production, choreographed and directed by Bob Fosse, opened June 3, 1975 and ran for a total 936 performances. Fosse's style is strongly identified with the show. Chicago's 1996 Broadway revival holds the record for the longest-running musical revival on Broadway. As of April 2011, it has played for more than 5,900 performances. The musical was produced in London's West End and on several tours and international productions. The Academy Award -winning film version of the musical was directed by Rob Marshall and starred Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renee Zelleweger, Queen Latifah, Richard Gere, and John C. Reilly.
