For 512 years the Vienna Boys Choir has been a fixture in sacred choral music. A number of famous musicians have emerged from its ranks, including Joseph Haydn and Franz Schubert. The enduring group of treble and alto voices are selected from young students in Austria as well as from around the world. Each member is individually auditioned and interviewed.
Their performance in Bend will feature selections by Haydn, Mozart and Schubert. But expect to enjoy these “singing ambassadors” renditions of pop music standards plus selections from the Americana songbook.
Ray Solley, Executive Director of the Tower, says, “To experience the Vienna Boys Choir is to be mesmerized by some of the best music ever composed, performed by the most angelic voices in the world.”
The Vienna Boys Choir is the fourth show in the Bend Surgery Center’s Foundation Series—a lineup of multicultural, multiethnic programs booked and presented by the Tower Theatre Foundation. Supporting sponsors are Central Oregon Radiology and the Oxford Hotel. The 2009-10 Foundation Series concludes with the Lakota Sioux Dance Theatre on April 26, 2010. “Simply put,” Solley adds, “we’re bringing the world to Bend.”
The Tower Theatre Foundation owns and operates the historic venue in downtown Bend. The Foundation’s mission is to provide performing arts, civic, educational and social events that enliven and enrich the lives of all Central Oregonians. Program information, group discounts and individual tickets are available at the Tower Theatre box office, or at www.towertheatre.org.
