BELLYDANCE SUPERSTARS BRING
"THE ART OF BELLYDANCE” TO BEND WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7
Dance Extravaganza at Tower Theatre
BEND, OR – “The Art of Bellydance,” the vibrant show fresh from a worldwide tour and PBS television special, comes to the Tower Theatre in Bend, Oregon on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets to the show—the season premiere of Bend Surgery Center’s Foundation Series—start at $25, and are available now at the Tower Theatre box office and at www.TowerTheatre.org.
In making the announcement, Ray Solley—Executive Director of the Tower Theatre Foundation—said, “Bend is home to several accomplished bellydance groups, and hundreds who use the dance for exercise and enjoyment. The Bellydance Superstars have updated this ancient entertainment art form for the world’s major stages. Bend and bellydance seem to be a match made in theatrical heaven.”
Featuring bold choreography, exquisite costumes and multimedia production elements, “The Art of Bellydance” showcases a variety of classic and modern bellydance styles. The result is an evening of energetic, playful, often spiritual, entertainment—all set to a global beat.
The Bellydance Superstars have been at the forefront of the dramatic growth and popularity of bellydance, taking the once largely solo dance of Middle Eastern culture into the 21st Century mainstream as a stage show appealing to a wide spectrum of dance enthusiasts. Solley will announce details of a citywide bellydance lesson with the Bellydance Superstars on October 6 at Mirror Pond Plaza shortly.
The group is the vision of Miles Copeland, legendary music mogul (The Police, Sting, I.R.S. Records). Comprised of America’s best-known, most sought-after bellydancers, the troupe performed over 500 shows in 20 countries in the last five years. “There is something quite special about a show that appears to break all the rules of what should be happening in the world today and succeed beyond all the entertainment pundits’ wildest imaginations,” Copeland explains.
The Art of Bellydance is part of the Tower Theatre’s Foundation Series, sponsored by Bend Surgery Center, with supporting sponsors Central Oregon Radiology and Oxford Hotel. The Tower Theatre Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, owns and operates the historic venue in downtown Bend. Its mission is to provide the best in performing arts at affordable prices for all Central Oregonians.
