Tower Theatre Foundation Announces 2011-12 Season

The 2011-12 Bend Surgery Center’s CenterStage Series at the Tower Theatre features eight events showcasing a variety of world class performers. Performances range from contorting acrobats to the soulful funk of Tower of Power; from re-living the jazz genius of Miles Davis to the comic brilliance of Groucho Marx; from folk icon Peter Yarrow to Grammy-winning pianist/songwriter Bruce Hornsby. 

“The CenterStage Series continues to bring the world’s best acts to Central Oregon,” said Ray Solley, executive director of the Tower Theatre Foundation, the nonprofit organization that owns and operates the historic venue in downtown Bend. “Thanks to our sponsors, this season we’re honored to offer the community an excellent lineup of exciting entertainment experiences. With a range of creative styles, the new season truly has something for everyone. We want the Tower to always be your best choice for a wonderful—and memorable— night out,” Solley concluded.

A live, multimedia performance captures the sound, history and culture of 1949-1959 through photos, film clips, beat poetry, and Davis’ innovative jazz. This collaboration with Blue Note Records features Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition winner, trumpet phenomenon Ambrose Akinmusire.

The eclectic singer/songwriter/pianist takes the solo spotlight to perform his unique fusion of jazz, rock and bluegrass, up close and personal. 

 

 

In addition to title sponsor Bend Surgery Center, the CenterStage Series is underwritten by Showcase Sponsor Mountain View Heating, plus Supporting Sponsors Central Oregon Radiology and Deschutes Brewery. 

 

 Tickets—ranging from $30 to $55—go on sale to Tower members June 26 online at TowerTheatre.org and the box office. Tickets for the general public go on sale August 5 at 10 a.m. Discounts for season subscriptions (five shows or more) are 20% for Tower members and 10% for the general public.  The Tower will announce their educational and family series, movie selections, and additional Christmas programming next month.
