Bend’s historic downtown theatre again rocks with the dynamic drumming of “JIGU! Thunder Drums of China” on Friday, October 22 as the Bend Surgery Center’s Foundation Series starts its 2010-11 season.
Chinese for “beat the drum,” Jigu returns with an all-new show featuring more than a dozen percussionists and musicians. Ranging from 16 to 30 years old, the troupe from Shanxi Province artfully blends astonishing rhythms, rich traditions, and contemporary special effects into a lively and colorful spectacle. From the producers of the Peking Acrobats, these thunderous drums—some nearly 10 feet tall—are sure to captivate theatre-goers of all ages.
“The Foundation Series is the Tower’s way of bringing the world to Bend,” said Ray
Solley, Executive Director of the landmark theatre. Upcoming performances in the 2010-11 series include:
· Ireland’s Celtic Tenors
· The Original Wailers from Jamaica
· Golden Dragon Acrobats from Hebei, China
· the UK’s Swingle Singers
Supporting sponsor of the Foundation Series is Central Oregon Radiology.
The Tower Theatre Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to maintaining and operating the historic theatre and making the best in performing arts available and accessible to all citizens of Central Oregon.
