Public workshop with “Bellydance Superstar” Moria Chappell
BEND, OR – As part of its presentation of “The Art of Bellydance” in Bend, the Tower Theatre Foundation offers a free lesson at Mirror Pond Plaza at noon on Tuesday, October 6. The bellydance workshop stars the popular instructor and acclaimed performer Moria Chappell. This one-of-a-kind session is open to all ages and all levels of interest or ability.
Ray Solley—Executive Director of the Tower Theatre Foundation—explained: “Bellydance has become one of the fastest growing forms of exercise. It is especially popular in Central Oregon. What better way to spend a lunch hour than watching or learning from an internationally-recognized teacher and performer.”
Moria Chappell is an innovator in the art of tribal fusion bellydance, from costume design and make-up to stage choreography. Her style is defined by extreme muscle control and isolation. Chappell began her dance career in Atlanta, then joined the Suhaila Dance School and Company in San Francisco. She joined the Bellydance Superstars in 2005, and has performed in 20 countries worldwide. In addition to teaching 30 workshops a year, Moria has studied yoga, Thai and Odissi dance in Thailand and India. She is featured in six of the Superstars’ best-selling DVDs.
Featuring bold choreography, exquisite costumes and multimedia production elements, “The Art of Bellydance” showcases a variety of classic and modern bellydance styles. The result is an evening of energetic, playful, often spiritual, entertainment—all set to a global beat. The world renown extravaganza comes to the Tower Theatre in Bend, Oregon on Wednesday, October 7 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets to the show—the season premiere of Bend Surgery Center’s Foundation Series—start at $25, and are available at the Tower Theatre box office and at www.TowerTheatre.org.
