Country Star Jo Dee Messina Launches Tower Theatre's New Season

Country Star Jo Dee Messina Launches Tower Theatre's New Season

One of the most recognizable and successful female artists in country music kicks-off the 2010-11 season of the Francis, Hansen and Martin CenterStage Series at the Tower Theatre, Tuesday, October 19, 2010. Jo Dee Messina turns the Tower stage into the music room of her Tennessee home using her guitar, piano, a couch and a couple of musicians. In this incomparable intimate setting, the Grammy-nominee and holder of nine Number One singles plays songs new and old, takes requests, answers questions, and shares stories from her ground-breaking career.

Messina is the first female country artist to have three songs from the same album (“I’m Alright”) reach the top of the charts for multiple weeks. She’s been honored by the Academy of Country Music, Billboard Magazine, and the Country Music Association. She brings all her hits to Bend, including “Heads Carolina, Tails California,” “I’m Alright,” “Bye Bye,” “Stand Beside Me,” “Lesson in Leavin’,” “Bring on the Rain,” and “My Give a Damn’s Busted.”

Opening for Messina is Bend High graduate (Class of 2000) and Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Lisa C. Pollock. Lisa wrote her first song at five, won her first songwriting contest at fifteen, and performed in New York City’s Carnegie Hall at sixteen. The video of her song “All That Remains” was chosen for the “Top L.A. Bands Contest” on KLOS FM, and the single is currently heard on Bend’s Clear 101.7 FM. The Bulletin described Pollock’s musical style as “think Sheryl Crow if she'd started her career in Nashville.”

Upcoming performances in the 2010-11 Francis, Hansen & Martin CenterStage Series include the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, “Forever Plaid,” Arturo Sandoval, and Linda Purl with Lee Lessack. Supporting sponsor of CenterStage is Deschutes Brewery.

The Tower Theatre Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to maintaining and operating the historic theatre and making the best in performing arts available and accessible to all citizens of Central Oregon.
