Due Soprani
5/12/2008 7:00 PM (PST)  - 2 hours

Trish Sewell is well-known to Central Oregon audiences for her appearances in numerous Obsidian Opera productions, including Adele in Die Fledermaus, Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutti, the Dew Fairy in Hansel and Gretel, and the title role in Betly. She was a frequent soloist with the Cascade Chorale, a guest artist with the Central Oregon Symphony, and has appeared in many concerts, benefits, and recitals. Due Soprani is her first appearance in Central Oregon since moving to Mesa, Arizona two years ago. She currently sings with the Phoenix Metropolitan Opera chorus.

Monica Torrey has sung lead roles in many operas but is best known to Central Oregon audiences as a director of many Cascades Theatrical Company plays and Obsidian Opera productions (The Mikado, Fledermaus, Hansel and Gretel, and more). In Bend, she has sung Berta in The Barber of Seville, Mme. Goldentrill in The Impresario, Fruma Sarah in Fiddler on the Roof, Mama Morton in Chicago, and Ethel Merman in Red, Hot & Cole, in addition to concerts and recitals.

Trish and Monica originally performed as “Due Soprani” in 2005 in a sold-out concert. In this reunion recital, they will sing a lovely selection of romantic art songs. Monica will perform selections from Schumann’s beloved and touching Frauenliebe und leben (A Woman’s Life and Love) and will honor her Celtic heritage with haunting traditional songs, including She moved through the fair, My Lagan love, and The Eriskay love-lilt.

Trish will lend her gleaming voice to French songs by Faure including the tender Le Secret and the impassioned Notre Amour, and an eclectic selection of Vocalises by Ravel, Stravinsky, and Rachmaninoff.

The operatic repertoire will be included with Trish’s brilliant rendition of the elaborately coloratura Glitter and be Gay from Bernstein’s Candide and Monica’s charming Faites-lui mes aveux from Gounod’s Faust. In a dramatic and ravishing duet, the duo will sing from Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier and will be joined by the talented local favorite Sherie Neff in the comic Three Ladies Trio from Die Zauberflote by Mozart.
